UX/UI Overhaul- Luno

Overview

The Luno branding was not originally designed to be digital-native so the app didn't feel as sophisticated, clean, and light as it should. Many of the decorative design elements also didn't translate to the app space.

Typography was also not properly considered for the app, especially in terms of weighting and layout which left key information screens in buy flows hard to scan.

Visual accessibility standards were also not properly considered and there were numerous UX design patterns that were sub-optimal.

All of which negatively affected the user experience.

Approach

After we conducted a thorough design audit, the UI designer worked with the brand design team to choose a fresher, more sophisticated colour palette that could work much more effectively in the information-rich app space. New, bespoke iconography was also designed.

After considering new fonts, including looking at native fonts, we decided that the original font had the right character, the weighting just needed to be changed. We paid careful attention to the layout of buy screens to improve legibility and ease of scanning. We also cleaned up grids, spacing and alignment. We also started looking at accessibility issues with design options for WCAG AA and AAA standards.

To focus attention and help curb abandonment, we took away the global navigation from all buy journeys and upgraded confusing design patterns.
